The former Speedway Airport is now an undeveloped parcel of land near West 21st Street & Griswold Road South in Hendricks County, between the towns of Avon and Brownsburg. The former airport opened in 1958 and was a small facility with three hangars and two runways (one made of turf). After a tornado destroyed one of the hangars and several aircraft, the airport was closed and replaced by the Hendricks County Airport.
Land needed for aviation vs. non-aviation use
All 145 acres are available for non-aviation development. Property has good visibility for commercial uses and is bisected by Ronald Regan Parkway.
The Development Zone
The market assessment indicates that there may be some potential for industrial development as well as research and development activities, and flex office space.
